Bush Post Primary’s Green code

We, the Green Schools Committee, will endeavour to work together with the staff and students of Bush Post Primary, to reduce litter and waste being sent to landfill, by increasing recycling. It is our mission to raise awareness of the problem areas in the school, highlight the benefits of a greener school and introduce a recycling programme that will achieve this.
Each member of the school community is responsible for the litter and we urge you to take pride in your school.
Let us all make Bush a greener place

The pupils and staff at Bush Post Primary, in the Cooley peninsula, are very excited and busy in the run up to their first Green-flag application 2014. A group of students, ranging from first to sixth year, have formed a committee with the help of their teachers to campaign against litter in the school and make it a greener and more inviting place for everyone. The students have a wealth of ideas gained from their days on the Green-school committees in the local primary schools and are bursting with enthusiasm and energy to re-use this invaluable knowledge and spawn a new era of recycling and composting in the school as well as growing vegetables for use in the Home Economics department, all in the name of sustainability.

Junk Kouture

The school’s Art department has led the way by participating in the innovative recycling competition, Junk Kouture for many years and have achieved huge success.
Their outfit, along with five other creations in Ireland, was shortlisted for this year’s European Recycling Platform’s (ERP) Electrical Waste Award. Their outfit comprised of recycled electrical equipment including plugselectrical wires and a lot of hard work!
Their team members Catherine Kane and Claire O’Hanlon were delighted to be invited to partake in photo-call at the Public Relations Agency H&K Strategies, Dublin 2, prior to the Grand Final. ERP are proud to support Junk Kouture for the third year running which is a national competition for second level students in Ireland and Northern Ireland which challenges teenagers to create high-end wearable fashion from everyday junk that would normally be fit for the bin.

Green Schools Flag

Bush Post Primary are delighted to have been awarded their first Green-Schools flag, at an award ceremony in the Helix, DCU, Dublin, on Thursday 21st May. The flag was achieved by the Green-School committee by examining the impact of litter and waste on the environment and exploring practical means for reducing the amount of litter and waste produced by the school.
The committee has worked tirelessly for over two years holding such events as recycling week, competing successfully in Junk Kouture, spring cleans, ensuring all students are knowledgeable of the benefits of recycling and introducing composting. The Green-Schools committee are delighted to have generated a culture of environmental awareness within the school and look forward to obtaining their next flag which concentrates on reducing energy consumption.
The school would like to take this opportunity to thank all students, teachers and County Council members, who helped in this rewarding process.
