The mission of Transition Year is to promote the personal, social, educational and vocational development of our students and to prepare them for their role as autonomous, participative and responsible members of society.
Transition Year is a one-year programme, which provides a bridge to enable students to make the transition between Junior to Senior cycle. It encourages personal and social development and recognises the need for students to grow in independence. Academic achievement is also fostered in Transition Year as students have three years to prepare for the Leaving Certificate. Our focus is on encouraging students to develop their ability to study and take responsibility for their own education. Transition Year offers the opportunity for students to learn important skills outside of the traditional classroom setting and this helps to motivate students to complete tasks and project work.
Each school devises its own Transition Year programme to meet the needs of its students. This is carried out in accordance with the Department of Education guidelines. The Principal, Co-ordinator and the Transition Year Teaching Team design the programme which is reviewed annually. All Transition Year students complete all modules of the ECDL Computer Course.
